Enjoy the action of the 2010 Pacific Rim Championships Saturday, May 22nd
Fans can follow the U.S. women’s success at the recent Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships in Melbourne, Australia, at 1:30 p.m. ET on May 22 on NBC Sports. The 90-minute broadcast is expected to feature action from the women’s team and all-around competition, with highlights of the men.
The U.S. women handily won the team gold medal and went one-two in both the junior and senior all-around, outperforming gymnasts from 10 countries including China, Russia, Canada and Australia.
Rebecca Bross of Plano, Texas/WOGA, and Jordyn Wieber of DeWitt, Mich./Twistars USA, won the senior and junior all-around gold medals, respectively. In addition to Bross and Wieber, the U.S. women’s team featured: Alexandra Raisman of Needham, Mass./Brestyan’s (senior); Kyla Ross of Aliso Viejo, Calif./Gym-Max (junior); Bridget Sloan of Pittsboro, Ind./Sharp’s Gymnastics (senior); and Sabrina Vega of Carmel, N.Y./Dynamic Gymnastics (junior).
In the men’s competition, the USA won the team title and went one-two in the junior all-around, with John Orozco of Bronx, N.Y., winning the junior all-around title. The U.S. men’s team, which is comprised of three seniors and three juniors, includes: seniors – Chris Cameron of Winter Haven, Fla./University of Michigan, Danell Leyva of Miami/Universal Sports, and Steven Legendre of Flower Mound, Texas/University of Oklahoma; and juniors -Dylan Akers of Houston/Cypress Gymnastics, C. J. Maestas of Corrales, N.M./Gold Cup Gymnastics, and John Orozco of the Bronx, N.Y./World Cup Gymnastics.
In the junior and senior individual events, the women won 12 medals (five gold and seven silver), and the men won 15 medals (six gold, four silver and five bronze).
